About JohnJohn Overton and his wife Ru have lived in the village of Poringland for almost 24 years. He has been a very active member of Poringland Parish Council for twenty years, following in his father’s footsteps, who was also a member of Poringland Parish Council, and a District Councillor. John is also Chairman and a founder member of the Arkwrights Community Association, which was founded over seventeen years ago, with a view to providing a new Community Centre for Poringland, Framingham Earl and all the surrounding villages. John, together with the other Committee members of the Association , was responsible for acquiring the land on which the new Community Centre is presently being built, and members of the Association in amalgamation with the Parish Council and other relevant parties are presently in the process of bringing the project to its final fruition. John is also Chairman of Poringland Wanderers Football Club, which runs five senior teams, and also has an association with nine junior teams, including a girls team, which are all based in Poringland. John serves Poringland side by side with his daughter Lisa. He feels that the father/daughter combination will, for the first time, represent the different age groups and their concerns and interests, in the area. John wants to create the best village in the area, with the people, and for the people. John would focus on improving services and community facilities, hopefully with the involvement of the younger generation. |
