All About JonJon was born and raised in Little Melton and has lived in Mulbarton for 19 years with his wife Valerie and their menagerie of dogs, cats and horses. He is 52, a qualified accountant and the former Chief Executive Officer of Norwich Union International. His wife Valerie is a headteacher of a special needs school as well as serving as a Governor at Mulbarton’s infant school. Jon is Vice Chair of Governors at the Hall School, another special needs school for children with severe learning difficulties which was recently upgraded from satisfactory to good in an Ofsted inspection. Jon became a District Councillor for Mulbarton Ward in May 2007 and during this time has served on various committees including Cabinet, Audit and Planning. Away from politics Jon enjoys riding his horse as well as following his local rugby team for whom he had a successful playing career. If elected, Jon will work hard for all the residents of the division irrespective of their normal political views.
Since being elected in May 2007 to South Norfolk District Council Jon has been busy looking after the needs and concerns of local residents. Jon has promoted the lowest possible tax increases for residents of South Norfolk and that has resulted in zero increase in 2008 and a low 2.48% this year – an average of 1.25% since the Conservative took over. Jon has successfully applied for a neighbourhood grant for Puddleducks, a local nursery, to provide storage for their play equipment. Jon has represented and campaigned on behalf of residents on both minor and major planning issues. These have included major housing growth in the area, wind turbines and gravel extraction. |
