South Norfolk District Councillor for Easton Ward

Representing the Parishes of Barford - Colton - Easton - Great Melton -  Marlingford - Wramplingham

About Margaret

Margaret says "Local people need someone who will stand-up for them on the local council. I would like to represent you and I hope that you will vote for me on May 3rd."

Margaret has ten years experience as a councillor on South Norfolk Council, serving 1991 to 1999 then winning a By-election in 2004. She stood down in 1999 due to changes in her employment.

Over the last two years she has served on the Equalities Group and has been Vice-Chairman of Housing and of the Economic Panel, which includes regeneration. She is particularly interested in ensuring housing is truly affordable for young people and that communities have the services that they require to be sustainable.

Margaret’s main aim is to act as advocate for and support the local community. She was Chairman of Barford and Wramplingham Parish Council for many years and also a Vice–President of the Norfolk County Association of Parish and Town Councils.

Her work with community groups led to two stints as Vice-Chairman of Norfolk Rural Community Council.

She willingly offers practical help and assistance to local groups and over the years has served on Women’s Institute, village sign fund-raising committee, village hall committee and Millennium Celebration committee. She supervised a playgroup in Bawburgh, became a Tawny Owl when Barford set up a Brownie Pack and more recently has run puppet making workshops in local villages.

Margaret’s career has centred around childcare but she also holds a DMS (Diploma in Management Studies). She worked for Norfolk Social Services for 13 years, then more recently for Ofsted and the NHS.

Margaret and her husband Terry have lived in Barford for 35 years, their children attended Barford Primary and Wymondham High School.
