About Eloise

Eloise is 29 and a resident of Diss where she is currently working towards a PhD in constitutional law following which she intends to pursue a future in academia.

Her family have lived in East Anglia for a number of years with her mother living locally since the late 1990s and she fully appreciates the benefits of living in this scenic town particularly after spending the first ten years of her career in London.

Since graduating from King’s College London with first class honours in Law in 2000, she has spent several years working as a political adviser/campaigns manager for a range of organisations from the Country Landowner’s Association (CLA) to the London Chamber of Commerce and the British Retail Consortium. Her experience of countryside issues and business make her an ideal person to represent Diss at the District Council.

She then spent a couple of years working for a Government Department, where her roles included working for a Minister in the healthcare field.

She has worked with businesses in both rural and urban areas and hopes to be able to bring this experience to her role in local issues.

She has now stopped commuting to London and is looking forward to playing a role in local politics and representing the residents of Diss. Locally she is involved with the “Homewatch” scheme in her area. She is keen to ensure that the voice of local people is heard in the council chamber and that their concerns are properly addressed.

Her interests include skiing (usually in Austria), hiking and, on a less energetic level, opera and classical music. She has also been involved in a book group.

About Glyn

I am a retired headteacher, having served 14 years at Tivetshall, and 11 years at Methwold in West Norfolk, and since my retirement as a part time teacher of music and PE at Burston Community School until 2004.

I am married with two children and four grandchildren.

I have experience in local government at both parish and district level, serving Feltwell both as a Parish Councillor from 1966 to 1972, and as their representative on the Downham Rural District Council from 1969 – 1972.

I was a member of Tivetshall Parish Council, serving as Council chairman. Since 1992 I have served as a member of Diss Town Council, and was elected Mayor and Council Chairman in 1999-2000 and again from 2001-2002.

I have been a governor of Diss Church Junior School, and I am an Honorary Vice President of Diss Cricket Club. For several years I was an official and qualified coach with Diss Athletic Club.

For the past 20 years, I have been involved with charity fundraising in Diss. I also enjoy my allotment, my music and spending leisure time with my wife and family.

I believe it is important for Diss, as border town to be properly represented at district level, to ensure major developments are accompanied by the necessary infrastructure, particularly with regard to school places and health provision.

I am also keen that such developments should also help to finance improvements in leisure facilities in the town.
