About DerekDerek was born in Loddon, (both father and grandfather were born in Langley), he moved to Bergh Apton in 1968 and has lived there ever since with his wife,He has four Sons, all born and educated locally until moving on to universities both in the UK and Internationally. Derek has represented the Chedgrave and Thurton Ward (Ashby, Chedgrave, Carleton St Peter, Claxton, Langley w Hardley and Thurton) on South Norfolk Council since 2003. He went to the old school on Loddon Church Plain under the same headmaster as his father (!) moving on to Sir John Leman school Beccles and then to Imperial College London where he achieved a first in Power Engineering. He spent his career as a Professional Electrical Engineer around the world, setting up and running joint-venture Power Generation and Distribution companies with extended residence in the Far East and Africa. Derek has served as Shadow Cabinet Member for Culture and Learning and is Vice Chairman of the Culture, Learning and the Community Policy Development Panel. He also sits on the Committees for Main Planning, East Area Planning, Scrutiny and Overview and Scrutiny Management. Derek is a cricket enthusiast and supporter of youth training for both sexes, he is a Vice-President of Brooke Cricket Club. He also serves as a Lay Chairman for the NHS complaints system and is a Parish Councillor for Bergh Apton. Derek is a local man and a good community champion. He is not afraid to stand up and speak out on the real issues that matter to the people of the Ward.
