CONSERVATIVE COUNCILS DELIVER BETTER SERVICES AT BETTER VALUE

Cameron_vbgg08David Cameron has launched the local election campaign for 2008 and has highlighted the progress that South Norfolk Conservatives have made since their election victory in May 2007.

The party's National Manifesto features case studies showing initiatives that prove that Conservative councils are tacking the issues that matter to local people. It then highlights our progress in clamping down on flytipping.  The manifesto says

"Fly-tipping – South Norfolk District Council

South Norfolk District Council is winning the war on fly-tipping, having gone from one of the worst to one of the best performers since the Conservatives took control in May 2007.

The Council has run a tough and highprofile campaign against environmental crime made up of four main elements.

  • Making the environment the Council’s top priority included raising the profile of its war on environmental crimes like fly-tipping in the media;
  • creating a new Environmental Crimes Team with a dedicated freephone number so that people can report a fly-tip incident more easily and have it dealt with quickly and effectively;
  • creating a new inhouse street cleaning service with more staff and equipment giving the Council direct control, responsibility and accountability for its performance;
  • launching a high-profile advertising campaign, using stark images of fly-tipping and littering on the sides of the Council’s bin lorries which cover every street and home in the district, week in and week out."

The National Campaign

Our key messages for the local elections on May 1st are

  • Vote Blue: Local elections are a chance to vote and send a message to the Labour Government, both locally and nationally.
  • Go Green: Conservative councils are greener. They are leading the way in the fight against climate change.
  • Save Money: Local people and communities expect their councils to deliver good service and value for money. Wasting public money is a slap in the face to people who live on tight budgets because council tax can swallow a significant part of their disposable income. Conservatives are on the side of hard-pressed taxpayers. We never forget that it's your money we're spending.
  • Be Safe: Conservative councils are also safer. Our councillors are totally committed to fighting the crime, anti-social behaviour, and vandalism that ruins people's quality of life.
